Your Expertise and Experience in Fashion is Needed Here
Have you ever had one of those moments working on your laptop or computer when you’re struggling with something, and a colleague or friend, perhaps even one of your children, comes along and shows you how to overcome the challenge you're having?
They make it look so easy, don't they?
Or perhaps you’ve been on an IT course taught how to use some software, and the trainer shows you an elegant trick. Then suddenly, at that moment, you realise you’ve been wasting time to do something the wrong way, the slow way, the inefficient way....for years?
We’ve all had those moments, I’m sure.
They’re when the 'penny drops' and it’s as if a veil has been lifted and suddenly you can see clearly how to do something. This phrase's origins are thought to have come from the days when people would put coins into a slot machine to retrieve an item or get the machine to work in some way.
The coin would get stuck from time to time, and someone would wait for the penny to drop for the machine to work. When the coin did drop, the phone or toy dispenser or another mechanism would come to life-giving the attendant and expectant customer their product or service. They suddenly got what they needed when the penny dropped.
That’s what happens too when subject ‘experts’ shares their know-how. Suddenly the penny drops for the people they help, and the recipients experience a moment of revelation.
These are empowering moments.
We instantly feel liberated, confident and excited about the newfound capabilities we have when we learn something new that will clearly make a difference.
Everyone in Fashion Struggles With Something
I’ve had this happen to me many times, especially when learning new software. I'm not the most tech-savvy of people :)
But it’s also happened to me in less technical areas of my personal development too. For example, when learning how to lead and manage others or when understanding basic business finance. And it always happens when learning how to use my latest phone!
Now I know I’m not alone in this. Everyone has struggles, challenges, shortfalls and limitations in both their personal and professional arenas. As I sit here tapping the keys on my laptop to tease out the words you’re reading, somebody somewhere is struggling with an issue that they repeatedly come up against.
"If only they had someone on hand they could turn to. A sort of resident expert to help them overcome that issue."
You could easily be such an expert.
Let’s take an example.
Clara is a 28-year-old shoe designer that graduated with first-class honours in Fashion and Accessory Design 5 years ago. Since leaving university, she has been working for a shoe manufacturer.
She creates her designs by hand, drawing them first and then transferring them to a digital format using Adobe illustrator. However, this transition from hand-drawn to digital hasn’t come easy to her, and she struggles to work efficiently.
Her work is meticulous but slow. She knows she has to learn how to work faster, which means working digitally from the beginning. But she faces a big challenge. She finds the Adobe courses on offer too generic. And what she can learn from YouTube tutorials is limited as these amateur productions are only useful for graphic artists and website designers.
If only she had access to a resident expert who could teach her what she needs to know in Adobe Illustrator but using specific shoe design examples and shortcuts. If only she could find a suitable fashion expert that has already mastered the software AND comes from a shoe design background. Clara says that she would gladly pay a premium for such training.
How This Relates to You and Your Fashion Expertise
Now you might be thinking that you can not help people such as Clara. After all, perhaps shoe design and Adobe Illustrator isn’t your field of expertise? I understand that. But you’re missing the point.
There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people, that you can serve with your knowledge, experience, and expertise. In a global marketplace that you can reach thanks to the Internet, people will pay to remove the difficulties in their lives.
Think about it for a moment and consider some of your own challenges, issues or difficulties.
Identify your biggest challenge of all, either professionally or personally (not work-related). Write down all the effects and the consequences of this challenge being in your life.
Oh, you don't have issues and challenges? Explore the issues in your relationships, teams, boss, suppliers, clients with software, equipment? What about increasing sales, reducing costs, hiring talent, disciplining employees, getting motivated etc. We all have challenges.
OK. You've found one. Now...
- How much would you pay for that to be eliminated from your life, never to return?
- How much would you pay for it to be completely resolved? All effects and consequences drowned by your new-found skill.
- How much would you pay to be able to master that issue or challenge?
There’s a price.
Clara's Example
Let’s take Clara’s issues as an example. The effect of her lack of skill in using Adobe Illustrator means the following:
- Designs take twice as long to produce as they should do.
- She gets pressure from her boss because she gets behind in her work.
- She takes work home with her to try and catch up on her workload.
- Working at home interferes with her social life, which is causing tension with her partner.
- The pressure associated with developing new designs with a shorter lead time is affecting her creativity.
- Her lack of creativity is affecting the designs she produces.
- Her boss gives her pressure on her lack of originality and creativity.
And so it goes on.
Clara would dearly love the help from an expert. If only she could find one.
As it happens, we are launching a course called "How to Master Adobe Illustrator to Create Professional Shoe Designs", which has been developed by Marianne Centner (MA), an expert in shoe design and who teaches shoe designers how to make the shift from hand-drawn to digital designing. She works specifically with shoe designers.
Your Expertise and Experience in Fashion is Needed Too
Let's take stock for a moment.
Isn't it true that you have a set of skills, a lifetime of experience and wisdom forged in the fire of everyday life in the fashion industry or fashion education?
Aren't their areas that you have mastered? Issues you know how to resolve? Challenges you have overcome and could teach and coach others how to do too?
Most likely, you underestimate these skills and how they can transform others' lives and be used to generate extra income for yourself.
Clara will take Marianne’s course and happily pay to have the issues I mentioned above eliminated from her life. You see, Clara doesn’t just want to learn how to use Adobe. She wants the pain points taken away as much as she wants the benefits it can bring.
And for Clara and people like her, the most expedient way to learn is online. She can choose to take a course when it suits her. She doesn’t want a one or two day course away from her workplace because that will only add to her time pressures.
Online is
- Simpler to arrange.
- More convenient to take.
- Faster to get results.
- Less expensive both in downtime, no travel costs and lower fees.
